Author Guidelines
Submission online
All manuscripts should be submitted through the online submission system in DOC Microsoft Word format. Download the Microsoft Word DOC template. The file size submission must be less than 4 MB (advised less than 2 MB). In the case of extreme difficulties encountered when submitting online, manuscripts can be submitted as e-mail attachments to the editorial office.
The Anales de la Real Academia Nacional de Farmacia invites contributions of four types: original articles, short communications, reviews and letters to the editor.
Contributions should fall within the scope of the journal outlined in the statement of Focus and Scope. In particular, the journal encourages the submission of manuscripts investigating pharmaceutical impacts on design and reporting of design research with practical relevance.
Preparing for Submission
Submission of a manuscript implies that the paper has not been submitted to or published in any other journal, in the same or similar form, in Spanish, English or in any other language. Manuscripts previously published in a workshop, symposium, or conference can be submitted for consideration provided that the authors inform the editorial office at the time of submission and that the manuscripts have undergone substantial revision.
Format
Files. The preferred format is Microsoft Word (.DOC). Other accepted formats are PDF and RTF.
Graphics files. The following formats for graphical files are preferred: GIF and JPEG or embedded in a Microsoft Word file.
Language. Manuscripts must be in Spanish or English. Both English and American spellings are acceptable.
Units. The international system of units (SI) should be used. If other units are mentioned, their equivalent in SI should be provided.
Footnotes. The use of footnotes is discouraged. Instead, they should be incorporated into the text.
Text. The text should be single-spaced; uses a Times New Roman 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
Figures. All figures should be cited in the text and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. A caption of no more than 15 words should be provided. The preferred formats for figures are PNG and JPEG. All figures should be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
Tables. All tables should be cited in the text and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. A title of no more than 15 words and a legend explaining any abbreviation used in that table should be provided. All tables should be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
URL. All URL addresses in the text (e.g., http://www.ranf.com) should be activated and ready to click.
Length of a Manuscript
Articles should be no longer than 4,000 words (excluding abstract, title page, and references, but including legends to figures and tables), and include no more than 40 references. Although short articles are acceptable, the editors strongly discourage fragmentation of a substantial body of work into a number of short publications.
Communications are restricted to reports of unusual urgency and significance or interest. They should be submitted with a statement from the authors as to why the paper meets these criteria. A paper will not be accepted if, in the opinion of the Editor, the principal content has previously been released or publicised in any other published medium. The paper should not exceed 1500 words or the equivalent and may occupy no more than 3 pages of the Journal. In estimating the length of a communication, an average sized figure is counted as 100 words and separate formulae and lines of a table are counted as 8 words per line, including headings and horizontal rulings. The title, authors names, and literature references are not counted. Communications should contain sufficient information, in particular experimental details, to be used to the reader, and to this purpose, the details of representative experiments should be provided.
Reviews should be no longer than 6,000 words (excluding abstract, references, title page but including legends to figures and tables) and the reference list need not be exhaustive (no more than 80). While most reviews are invited by the Editors, authors interested in contributing reviews are requested to first contact the Editor.
Letters to the Editor should be no longer than 1,000 words and include no more than three bibliographic references. Letters should focus on commenting or enlarge previous published articles, or deal with some aspects of educational or sanitary policy and pharmaceutical sciences.
Multimedia Files
Authors are encouraged to submit multimedia files that are essential to the conclusions of the manuscript. Multimedia files, such as 3-dimensional computer models, videos, and interactive demonstrations, will be published as online extra to the manuscript. The preferred formats are MPEG and Quicktime. Authors are encouraged to make the most of the benefits of publishing supplementary information in electronic form. Information: esi.html.
Permissions
Authors are required to obtain permission to reproduce previously copyrighted materials from other sources in both print and electronic form.
MANUSCRIPT SECTION
In general, initial manuscript submissions to the Anales de la Real Academia Nacional de Farmacia should consist of a single DOC file with fonts embedded, incorporating: Text, Figures and Tables (please note that figures and tables should be embedded in the text as close as possible to where they are initially cited), or the text saved in one of the acceptable text file formats. In this case, the figures, saved individually in one of the acceptable file formats and a graphical and textual abstract for the contents pages, saved individually in one of the acceptable file formats. Download the Microsoft Word DOC template.
The following format and order of presentation is suggested:
Title, author(s), address(es). Only a concise and informative title should be included. No more than 100 characters, not including spaces between words. In a multiauthored work involving more than a single institution, indicate individual affiliation by means of a superscript Arabic number. Author are asked to provide full address for correspondence and may include e-mail address as a footnote.
Abstract. A manuscript must include an abstract in english containing no more than 200 words and other one in spanish. The editors of the Journal can help authors who are not fluent in spanish. It should indicate the techniques used and summarize the most important results.Â
Keywords. 5 keywords should be provided after the abstract.
Introduction. Provide the minimum background information that will orient the general reader.
Material and methods. Provide a level of detail such that another investigator could repeat the work; for methods that are used without significant modification, citation of the original work will suffice.
Human Subjects. For reports of research using human subjects, provide assurance that (a) informed consent in writing was obtained from each patient and (b) the study protocol conformed to the ethical guidelines of the 1975 Declaration of Helsinki as reflected in a priori approval by the appropriate institutional review committee. Refer to individual patients by number, not by initials.
Animal Experimentation. In studies involving animal experimentation, provide assurance that all animals received humane care according to the criteria outlined in the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals" prepared by the National Academy of Sciences and published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH publication 86-23 revised 1985).
Manufacturers. Include the names and locations (city and state or country) of manufacturers when mentioning proprietary drugs, tools, instruments, software, etc.
Results. Present the major findings of the study in graphic form if practicable. Do not illustrate minor details if their message is conveyed adequately by simple descriptive text. Mention all tables and figures.
Discussion. In the discussion, concisely present the implications of the new findings for the field as a whole, minimizing reiteration of the results, avoiding repetition of material in the introduction, and keeping a close focus on the specific topic of the paper.
Conclusion. Conclusion is your chance to have the last word on the subject. The conclusion allows you to have the final say on the issues you have raised in your paper, to summarize your thoughts, to demonstrate the importance of your ideas, and to propel your reader to a new view of the subject. It is also your opportunity to make a good final impression and to end on a positive note.
Acknowledgment. Acknowledge personal assistance and providers of special reagents. Grant and other financial support should be listed in this section.
References. The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. The APA system of referencing should be used. Some citation examples from the APA Style Essentials are shown below:
